Kennesaw State University has grown from humble beginnings as a small junior college and into one of the largest universities in the state of Georgia. According to this article published by collegestats.org, Kennesaw State has nearly 30,000 students currently enrolled. That is 30,000 people who need housing, which is one of the major reasons why we buy houses in Kennesaw. What a lot don’t know is that the pricing for on campus housing at KSU is outrageous. As a student there I had to look elsewhere for housing as I could not afford to pay what it cost to live on campus at KSU. Below we take a deep dive into KSU student housing and talk about why we buy houses in Kennesaw, GA.
On Campus Housing
On campus housing at Kennesaw State is top notch, there is no denying that. It is not your typical dorm living. Each student has their own individual bedroom, and in the nicest apartments, each student may have their own bathroom. This is a far cry from typical dorm living with community bathrooms and two beds in a cramped single room. Heck, a lot of the housing on campus at KSU have full kitchens! There are very nice options for on campus living at KSU, but there are little to no affordable options. I will detail below some of the options regarding KSU housing. All information pulled for this article is straight from KSU’s website and can be found here. I will just detail a few of the options as they are easily laid out for you in the above link.
Austin Residence Complex
The Austin Residence Complex is the cream of the crop of the Kennesaw State on campus housing facilities. They offer both 2 bed/2 bath units and 4 bed/4 bath units. It is located on the south side of the KSU campus and comes equipped with a full kitchen, washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, and all kitchen appliances. They are also fully furnished with full size beds in the bedrooms. Along, with all of the in-apartment amenities, Austin Complex also has community amenities including an activity center with tvs, pool tables, and ping pong, a computer lab, and outdoor recreational space. As you can see, the Austin Complex offers a plethora of great options for students who stay there, all for the low price of $9000/year for 2 bedroom/2 bath or $8340/year for their 4 bed/4 bath option. That breaks down to $750/month for essentially a bedroom and a bathroom. If you calculate the fact that most students go home for summers and that their apartment will more than likely be vacant for 3 months out of the year, you are looking at $1000/month for the amount of time actually spent in the apartment. There is no option to only stay for 9 months and get a prorated rate, you will pay the full yearly rate regardless of if the student stays in the apartment for the full year or not.
KSU Place Complex
The cheapest option available for student on campus housing is KSU Place Complex 1. These are all 4 bed/2 bath apartments. One set of these apartments comes with a washer/dryer and the other does not. The apartments that come with a washer dryer will run you $7260/year and without will run you $6900/year. That comes out to $605/month and $575/month. These units do come with a full kitchen and kitchen appliances, furnished beds, and cable and wifi access. However the common areas do not come furnished it appears. The community amenities include a computer lab, fitness center, gaming lounge, and a nearby health clinic. But again, that is a steep price to pay for essentially a bedroom and a shared bathroom.
Oh I almost forgot, when you live on campus you are required to purchase a meal plan through the University. This can add a significant amount of fees to pay for every semester. If you live off campus you are not, however, required to purchase a University meal plan.
Off Campus Living
One of the reasons Kennesaw is such a focus for us is the ability to rent to college students. When I was in school a few buddies and myself found a house near campus and rented it out. We ended up paying around $350/month as opposed to the outrageous cost of the on campus housing. And I know I’m not the only one who decided not to live on campus, tons of students live in off campus housing, and a good number of those live in rented houses near campus. Being able to provide a secondary option to some of the ~30,000 students going to school at Kennesaw is a great business model for us, as we have no shortage of potential renters, and great for students who need more affordable housing. This is why we buy houses in Kennesaw. If you are in the need of selling your house fast in Kennesaw, GA, give us a call today or fill out the form on our website. We look forward to working with you!
